With Black History Month coming to a close, we should all remember this quote from Martin Luther King Jr.! With the election of Donald Trump, many people have been galvanized towards action against the injustices of this system. Whether it's fighting for Black people, Immigration Rights, LGBTQ rights, or Community Control of the Police, we need to know that it is all connected. When we fight for one, we fight for all!
The same unaccountable law enforcement that plants evidence on and brutalizes community members is the same police department that (increasingly) consumes so much of the city's budget that it can't afford to produce solutions to social and economic crises, like housing. Then, that same unaccountable law enforcement helps to evict you or aide in deporting your neighbors.
Tallahassee Community Action Committee will continue to fight for community control of the police and police accountability in every form it can come in - just like MLK would've wanted! Happy Black History month!
